Coma Cluster
A rich cluster of galaxies in the constellation Coma Berenices, extending over several degrees of sky and containing more than a thousand bright galaxies. One of the nearer rich clusters, it lies at an estimated distance of 300 million light years. It is roughly spherical in shape with most of the galaxies concentrated towards the centre, where the average distance between galaxies is three times smaller than the distance between the Milky Way and the Andromeda Galaxy in the Local Group.
